2019 Grand Ireland Fly-Drive Itinerary

Day 12 (BB) - Today you can either take the direct route to Dublin or take the ferry to County Wexford (approx. €8) and drive to Dublin via the scenic route over the Wicklow Mountains. Your stay tonight is at the excellent Croke Park or Sandymount Hotel with the evening is at leisure to explore Dublin's many pubs, restaurants and attractions - Mileage direct route approx. 100 miles / via Wicklow Mountains approx. 120 miles.

Meal Basis - BB = Bed & Breakfast / HB = Dinner, Bed & Breakfast / D = Dinner Only

Day 1 (D) - Flights from selected UK Airports to Dublin - Mileage approx. 95 miles  

On arrival in Dublin you'll collect your car hire for the drive to Belfast and your Hotel. After check-in and a little time to freshen-up a Welcome Dinner will be served in the hotel.

Day 2 (BB) - Breakfast followed by the morning at leisure in Belfast. Attractions include; the Titanic Experience, SS Nomadic, Stormont House, Crumlin Road Gaol, Ulster Museum before heading north on the Causeway Coastal Route to Coleraine taking in all of the sights en route including Torr Road, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Ballycastle. Overnight at the Lodge Hotel - Mileage approx. 90 miles.

Day 3 (BB) - The full day at leisure on the Causeway Coast to explore more of the local attractions including, Dunluce

Castle, Dark Hedges, Downhill Demense, Musselburgh Temple and the UNESCO World Heritage site The Giant's Causeway.

Day 4 (HB) - After breakfast, today we head south-west on the Causeway coast via Downhill Demense and Limvady. The direct routing then takes you cross-country through Londonderry, Letterkenny and the Bluestack mountains to Bundoran. Alternately you could take the more scenic route from Letterkenny and follow the coastal road via Falcarragh, Dungloe and Killybegs, before rejoining the direct route at Donegal. Arrival at the Allingham Arms Hotel should be mid/late afternoon where dinner is included - Mileage - Direct route - approx. 100 miles / Scenic route approx. 160 miles.

Day 5 (HB) - Departing Bundoran again you have the choice of taking the direct or scenic route to Westport. The direct route is via Sligo, Tobercurry, Charlestown and Castlebar, whilst the scenic route takes you via Ballina and the Ballcroy National Park. Arrival at the Westport Woods Hotel & Spa should be mid/late afternoon where dinner is included.  

Day 6 (HB) - Departing Westport after breakfast today you'll head south into the Connemara region, which with its mountains and National Park is said to be one of the last unspoilt areas in Ireland. Our route takes us via Sligo, Westport and Clifden the most westerly point in Connemara before making our way to Galway and the excellent Connemara Coast Hotel your base for the next two nights. Dinner at leisure explore the restaurants and bars in Galway - Mileage approx. 190 miles.

Day 7 (BB) - Breakfast followed by the full day at leisure in Galway, one of Ireland's most engaging cities. Brightly painted pubs heave with live music, while restaurants and cafes offer front-row seats for observing buskers and street theatre. Remnants of the medieval town walls lie between shops selling handcrafted Claddagh rings, books and musical instruments, bridges arch over the salmon-stuffed River Corrib, and a long promenade leads to the seaside suburb of Salthill, on Galway Bay, the source of the area's famous oysters.- Why not take an excursion out to the arran Islands ? Tonight you are at leisure spend a relaxing evening at the hotel or to explore the restaurants and bars in Galway.

Day 9 (BB) - Breakfast followed by the day at leisure to explore the Dingle Peninsula and the Slea Head drive, a circular route, beginning and ending in Dingle that takes in a large number of attractions and stunning views on the western end of the peninsula. The route is clearly labelled by road signs throughout its length. This evening you are free to make your own arrangements for dinner.

Day 10 (HB) - Departing the hotel and Killarney after breakfast, today you'll enjoy the scenic drive round the famous Ring of Kerry. Your route takes you anti-clockwise via Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Cahersiveen, Waterville and Kenmare. Then continuing through West Cork to Rosscarbery via Gengarriff, Bantry Bay and Skibbereen, arrival at the Celtic Ross Hotel will be late afternoon/early evening with dinner included at the hotel - Mileage approx.142 miles.

Day 11 (HB) - After a leisurely breakfast you'll depart Rosscarbery. Today your routing takes you to the famous Blarney Castle & Blarney Woolen Mills, through Cork and Middleton where you can visit Jamesons Whiskey Centre before continuing on to Waterford where you'll stay at the Waterford Marina or Athanaeum Hotel with dinner included - Mileage approx. 123 miles

Day 13 - After breakfast enjoy the day at leisure in Dublin before heading back to the Airport. After dropping off your hire car you'll check-in for your flight back to the mainland.

Day 8 (HB) - Departing the hotel and Galway after breakfast your journey today takes you South via the Burra National Park and travelling via Lisdoonvarna, the Cliff of Moher and La Hinch, Spanish Point and Kilrush before taking the short ferry crossing to Tarbert (cost approx. €4.50 per person), From here your route takes you via Listowel and Tralee to Killarney. Should you prefer to take a more direct route avoiding the ferry, you can head inland from Lahinch to Ennis and follow the road south via Limerick, Adare and Newcastle West. Arrival in Killarney should be late afternoon, where you'll spend two nights at the excellent Randles Court Hotel in Killarney – dinner is included on the first evening - Mileage approx. 145 miles.
