DOURO VALLEY RIVER CRUISE

Combine an incredible driving tour of the Picos de Europa and Portugal with a wonderful 6 day Douro river cruise on board CroisiEurope's premium river cruise ship from Porto. Portugal offers exquisite food, idyllic scenery and captivating history. Visitors will be left in awe of its majestic cities, golden beaches, imposing castles and cobblestone villages and, above all, its incredible drives.
The Douro Valley is known locally as the enchanted valley. Following a route between the viewpoints that offer the best vistas, you need to cross the Douro River from north to south and back again. However, along the way you can admire breath-taking landscapes over the river and visit vineyards, towns and villages until you reach Miranda do Douro, the point at which the river enters Portugal. The N222 between Pinhão and Régua was voted the World’s Best Drive in 2015. We also recommend the N101 from Régua through Mesão Frio in the direction of Amarante and the N322-3 between Pinhão and Alijó.
Porto’s charms are as subtle as the nuances of an aged tawny port, best savoured slowly on a romp through the hilly backstreets of Miragaia, Ribeira and Massarelos. It’s the quiet moments of reflection and the snapshots of daily life that you’ll remember most, the slosh of the Douro against the docks, the snap of laundry drying in river winds, the sound of port glasses clinking, the sight of young lovers discreetly tangled under a landmark bridge, on the rim of a park fountain, in the crumbling notch of a graffiti-blasted wall
The Picos de Europa on the borders of Asturias, Cantabria, and Castilla y León, is probably the most stunning National Park in Spain, or even Europe. The contrasts within these 300 square miles of spectacular natural beauty, that link Cantabria and Asturias, are amazing. Small mountain villages are tucked away in the higher slopes and are almost completely isolated. Deep gorges that plunge vertically down into deep river valleys, sparkling lakes and magical forests make this an adventure playground just begging to be explored.

MS Amalia Rodrigues is a Premium three-deck ship specially designed for the river Douro in Portugal. Launched in 2015, this elegant-designed ship with a bright, modern feel has ample space throughout for passenger comfort with splendid panoramic windows. The upper and middle deck cabins have French balconies. Two suites on the upper deck come with sun loungers. The large windows on the main deck provide great views from your cabin. All meals during the cruise are served in the cozy dining room on the main deck.
