York, Whitby & the

NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS

A trip to York, Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors will offer you the very best of the North East. York is a gem of a city; fusing together its hotchpot of history and culture which has lost little of its pre-industrial lustre. In contrast, Whitby will lure you in with its award winning fish and chips and pristine blue flag beaches. To complete this trio there is the Yorkshire Moors, whose rolling moorland, dramatic coastline and starry night sky combine to offer well deserved peace and tranquillity.

York’s centre is dominated by the towering and awe-inspiring York Minster, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in the world. As well as its renowned blend of both unwelcome invader and settler past oozing from every stone and brick, York is also a modern and bustling city which caters to the delighted tourist where its ancient walls hide a range of contemporary eateries and independent shops.

Whitby is a traditional English seaside town boasting both a working harbour and the haunting ruins of its famous abbey which looms over both the town and the North Sea. The town has changed little in a century and here you can enjoy sandy beaches, rock pools and its blend of traditional fisherman’s cottages and elegant Georgian townhouses.

North Yorkshire Moors are a breath of fresh air. Consisting of over 1400 miles of tranquil and unspoilt natural beauty; the moors offer a range of England’s best natural landscapes. Whether its pine forests, purple tinged heather moorland or rolling hills which appeal to you the moors can offer it all. Nestled amongst all this natural splendour you will spy badgers, roe deer and, if you are lucky, a majestic bird of prey soaring through the air.
