BUCHAREST - PELES CASTLE - BRASOV - DRACULA'S CASTLE
TURDA SALT MINE - SIGHISOARA - CLUJ-NAPOCA - THE TRANSALPINA
CORVINS CASTLE - SIBIU & THE TRANSFAGARASAN PASS
Join us on this amazing 10 Day tour to Romania and discover the Legend that is Transylvania. The largest of the Balkan countries, Romania has dramatic mountain scenery and a coastline on the Black Sea. Tenuous associations with Bram Stoker’s fictional Dracula have long lured travellers to Transylvania, but much of the rest of the country, with its beautiful mountains, incredible roads and river valleys, rustic villages, and vibrant cities, has only recently begun to attract visitors.
Bucharest - Vlad the Impaler stated his claim to Bucharest in 1459. His citadel on the Dambovita was the first of a host of palaces, many of which still stand. Four metro lines and a modern bus network transport visitors and commuters. Nicknamed "Little Paris", Bucharest's elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences. Don't miss the Village Museum, Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum not to mention the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon.
Peles Castle - Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, Peles castle served as the summer residence of Romania's royal family, until 1947. Peles castle's 160 rooms are adorned with the fine European art: paintings by great artists, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows and Cordoba leather-covered walls. Each room is decorated in a different style or theme.
Brasov - From its large gothic church, to its famous tearoom, Brasov is definitely a city worth visiting. Sitting at the foot of the majestic Mount Tâmpa, with deep green forests and roaming bears threatening to spill onto its cobbled streets, Brasov is a stunning, richly historical and suitably gothic place. A city shared by Romanians, Hungarians, Germans and Bulgarians, it has a rich and proud heritage; welcoming visitors with genuine warmth.
Bran Castle Located on a cliff, this castle is considered to be the home of Count Dracula from Bram Stoker's stories. Bran Castle is one of the most famous landmarks in Transylvania. Tour the eerie castle, including the infamous torture room and decide for yourself what's fact or fiction.
Sighisoara is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this perfectly intact 16th century gem with nine towers, cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches rivals the historic streets of Old Prague or Vienna for atmospheric magic.
Turda Salt Mine - Set nearly 400 feet (120 meters) below ground, the Turda Salt Mine (Salina Turda) was excavated for centuries before opening to the public in 1992. The subterranean, salt-encrusted chambers now host a Ferris wheel, mini golf, table tennis, an amphitheatre, and a boating lake.
Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of Transylvania, and though you won’t find vampires here, you can explore castles, fortresses, botanical gardens, museums and parks. Cluj-Napoca has a vibrant arts scene that embraces both the traditional and the progressive. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy classical concerts, theatrical performances, puppet shows and music of every genre.
The Transalpina or DN67C is a 148 km national road located in the Parâng Mountains group, Southern Carpathians of Romania, one of the highest roads of the Carpathian Mountains. It connects Novaci, south of Parâng Mountains, to SebeÈ™ in the north.
Sibiu - The historic center of Sibiu is still partially enclosed by its original 12th-century medieval walls. Begin your visit in the Piata Mare, home to the Brukenthal Palace, containing the main halls of the Brukenthal National Museum. Descend the Passage of the Stairs down into lower Sibiu, and make sure to be on your best behavior as you cross the Bridge of Lies.
Transfăgărășan Pass - Described as "better than the Stelvio", and "he best road in the world!" by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear. This amazing road passes over the Fagaras mountains in Transylvania at 2000 metres. The road was built as a strategic military route, has 90 km of twists and turns and steep drops and climbs. It climbs up to 2,034 metres altitude and is the second highest paved road in Romania after Transalpina
