Cape Town - From flat-topped Table Mountain down to the blue waters of Table Bay, Cape Town is simply stunning, but the city doesn't thrive by its looks alone. Proudly multicultural, its flourishing arts, dining, and nightlife scenes are proof of this modern metropolis' creativity and innovative spirit.
The Garden Route is a 190 mile stretch of the south-eastern coast of South Africa which extends from Witsand in the Western Cape to the border of Tsitsikamma Storms River in the Eastern Cape. The name comes from the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous estuaries and lakes dotted along the coast.
Hermanus is known as the whale watching capital of South Africa and is perfectly positioned on the windswept coast of Walker Bay for seeing migratory southern right whales. In the town, during the day you find a array of galleries, shops and waterfront cafés. In the evening, you can dine in one of the seafood restaurants while watching the sun set over the ocean.
Oudtshoorn - Inland from the Cape’s famous Garden Route, over breathtakingly beautiful mountain passes, magnificent red rocks and the wide open spaces of the Klein Karoo, Oudtshoorn, known internationally as the ostrich capital of the world where Royalty, emperors, maharajahs and high society once adorned themselves with the world’s finest feathers.
Knysna is one of the highlights of the Garden Route, a culinary hotspot which overlooks a tranquil lagoon dotted with sailing boats. The ocean lies beyond twin sandstone promontories; the eastern head viewpoint affords beautiful views across the lagoon’s islets at sunset.
St Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal - Surrounded by an UNESCO World Heritage Site, this town is at the heart of magnificent natural coastal forests,
wild animals, majestic bird life, breath-taking beaches and hospitable people. iSimangaliso Wetland Park is considered to be the richest mammal conservation area with 1,200 crocodiles and 800 hippos.
Falaza Game Park is a privately owned Game Park and offers Luxury Tented accommodation and an array of authentic bush experiences in a lush indigenous setting. It is more than just a safari destination, it’s a escape to an unforgettable African adventure.
Rourke's Drift is a necessary destination for anyone with a passing interest in British colonial history. The museum adjacent to the mission station provides a fascinating record of the events in which 140 British Redcoats fought off an attack from about 4,000 Zulu warriors.
Ntshondwe Resort, Ithala is located near the hamlet of Louwsburg in northern KwaZulu-Natal and is home to some of Africa’s premier game species such as elephant, buffalo and leopard, as well as both black and white rhino. The abundant giraffe is the icon for the game reserve.
Mbabane (pronounced Um-ba-ba-neh) is Swaziland’s capital city and has a magnificent setting, ringed by the craggy backdrop of the Dlangeni Hills. You can isit a cultural village, see traditional dances, and tour the capital city and taste local and street food.
The Kruger National Park - Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, this enormous and magnificent park is one of the most popular public-entry game parks in the world. Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, Kruger offers a world-class wildlife experience with unparalleled diversity. It is home to 336 tree species, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds, and 147 mammals, and leads in environmental management techniques.
Blyde River Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world, it contains various natural attractions that can all be admired from various vantage points. It covers 29,000 hectares stretching from the misty highlands down to the hotter and drier lowveld at the Blyde Dam.
Makalali Game Reserve is home to the Big 5, with previously extirpated species including lion, elephant, rhino, hippo, cheetah, hyena and disease-free buffalo, being reintroduced. Leopard, brown hyena and the smaller mammal species as well as the endangered ground hornbill and the many threatened and endangered vulture and raptor species are present on the reserve.
Johannesburg - Commonly known as Jo’burg or Jozi, this vibrant city has so much to offer with wonderful restaurants, relaxed sidewalk cafes, laughter-filled shebeens and glitzy shopping malls. Soweto is an urban settlement or 'Township' in the South West of Johannesburg, with a population of approximately 1.3 Million. The Apartheid Museum is a great place to get an understanding of the history of apartheid and the impact it has had on South African society.
Victoria Falls As the mighty Zambezi River crashes over a basalt rock ledge and drops 108 metres (354 feet) into a powerful whirlpool, it forms the largest sheet of falling water on the planet. Victoria Falls, traditionally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya (which, aptly, means the 'Smoke that Thunders'), the falling water’s impressive roar can sometimes be heard from 40 kilometres (25 miles) away. And on a wind-free day during high-water season, which runs from about February to July, a dazzling cloud of mist can float high above the Falls. This is truly a magnificent wonder of nature that every safari lover should experience at least once!
Weather in Cape Town and the Garden Route - April and May is considered a great time to visit Cape Town and the Garden Route due to the moderate weather and the transition from a hot, dry summer to milder autumn. Weather in Kruger and surrounding area in May is known for its mild temperatures, making it one of the best times for a safari. Morning temperatures hover around 12°C (54°F), creating crisp, refreshing starts to the day, while afternoons warm up to a comfortable 27°C (81°F).
